NIGERIANS AND THE FAILURE                 SYNDROME
                         Edited by Martins U.O
In our world today especially in my dearest loving country Nigeria, people see failure as a big dream killer and killjoy. Once a person fails in an endeavor, he is automatically considered as a failure and a person that can never succeed again and this omen makes people to give up on their dreams as well as stop trying.
Failure is basically first attempt in learning until you realize excellence. Failure begins in the mind. A person that believes he will fail in a particular area, will definitely fail even before he tries out that activity. A negative mindset begets failure. Not succeeding doesn’t mean that it is the end, it only implies that the best is yet to come.
Thomas Edison the American inventor and business man that invented light bulbs failed 999 times before he finally succeeded in producing light bulbs. He decided to use his experiences as an opportunity to try out new things that will lead him to achieve his goals. There are so many other people and limiting it to Nigeria, I can use an example of Aliko Dangote before becoming the richest man in Africa amongst others. Our successful musicians in the music industry today tried severally before rising to stardom.
There are several lessons that needs to be learnt in life as regards to failure;
The first is that on the journey of life, there are several setbacks that will be encountered on the journey to success. Secondly, failure installs in you experiences and makes you dig deep into yourself. Thirdly, it also installs deeper and more knowledge into what you are doing. Finally, it also helps you to grow above your limits and beyond your greatest expectation.
In order to overcome the fear of failure and failure generally, you must ignore people that discourage you in life, revisit your goals and make sure you create a massive action plan just in case one plan fails.
An average Nigerian should not be afraid of Failing because once you try something and actually don’t see immediate result, it means that it is an experience that you need to go through in order to achieve your desired goal.
Keep pressing on try and try until you actually succeed and most of all don’t give up.
This message goes especially to my fellow Nigerian youths fighting for a bright future.

  1. Wow, good write-up Anny. This affects us all....And Yea, having a negative thought before an assignment or project most likely ll be a failure. Comparing amongst ourselves is a big factor in failure...that this person has achieved this and looking at where we are we give up. Not knowing some of those people genuinely worked to be where they are over and over. We're humans and so we feel inferior at times... I guess we need more of our elders, parents to keep reminding us not to give up, to Always have our back even we fail at something. To encourage...that will play a big role too. Well done with your write-up. It's a good one

  2. Thanks for sharing. It is essential to understand that failure is not the end. In fact, failure sometimes is an ingredient of success. What we all need is to be 'resilient' and always carry the message of joy in all our endeavours.

    1. Thanks for the comment. Individual fails because they give up so easily, when climbing the ladder of success, we are faced with different challenges which often warrant us quitting but only persistency prevails.

  5. Great read.. Not only in Nigeria. The fear of failure creeps in a lot of other nations. Some don't even try to begin with and fail at thought stage. Ifeanyichkwu
